Game of War: Fire Age – Account Recovery

Game of War: Fire Age – Account RecoveryWithout a doubt, the number one question I get e-mailed and asked about is, “How do I recover my Game of War: Fire Age account that I lost?” I empathize with people that ask me that question because I’ve owned several accounts and have ‘lost’ one myself. Unfortunately, the correct answer for most people is that you can’t recover it because the account is gone. But losing your account in almost all cases is completely preventable and I’ll tell you how.

Usually when I receive an e-mail from an account someone lost, it goes something like this:

“My phone was damaged so I replaced it through my service provider. I reloaded the Game of War: Fire Age app back onto my phone. How do I get my account back?”

“I created a secondary account but now I can’t get back to my primary account. How do I load up my primary account again?”

“I had to do a hard reset on my phone (or iPad) and lost everything. Can I recover my Game of War: Fire Age account?”

For those that haven’t really looked into it, Machine Zone (specifically for Game of War: Fire Age) has virtually no customer support. In their Terms of Service they essentially put the majority of the burden on the consumer (you). They basically “reserve the right” to do whatever they want. When it comes to actually supporting you that comes in very limited form. They’ll do resets for major bugs or exploits and refund you your money if you purchased during the rollback period. They provide server security to protect you data such as payment information. That’s pretty much it.

Basically things that are almost universally standard practice in the gaming industry they’ll do. Account support is not really one of them, which is strange to me because most major games have at least some sort of customer support for accounts. HOWEVER, if you really want to give it a shot and try to recover your account, you can contact them via their support e-mail at ‘support@machinezone.com’.

The best way to recover your account is protect it in such a way that you never have that problem in the first place. As soon as you create a Game of War: Fire Age account and finish the starting tutorial, go to the +More button in the bottom right corner of the screen and select Accounts and Devices. Then you’ll create a Machine Zone account attach it to your Game of War: Fire Age account. This is the number one safety against losing your account. The only account I ever lost was the one account I didn’t do this to.

Attaching your e-mail account to your game account also allows you to play that account on multiple devices. For example, you could play your account on both your iPhone and iPad.

You can also set a Pin Code to the account which provides double security in preventing unauthorized access. In addition to that, you can activate Device Registration on your game account. This prevents someone from logging into your account, even if they have your password and Pin, if they are attempting to do it on an unauthorized device. This provides triple security for your account when used with the other protection options.

Honestly, they really set you up to be able to safely use your account if you follow through with those steps. The problem is, they don’t make those steps mandatory so many people don’t do them. Almost all of the e-mails I receive regarding account recovery could have been prevented if the players used these steps prior to losing their account.

Also, if you play multiple accounts, you’ll need a different e-mail address for each account. I used mail.com to create additional e-mail addresses that I only used for creating additional Machine Zone accounts for Game of War: Fire Age. I recommend using as short of an e-mail address as possible, so when you’re switching between accounts you can minimize your typing time.

So if you haven’t connected your Game of War: Fire Age account to a Machine Zone account using an e-mail address, do it right now. I consider this mandatory for the game or you will eventually lose your account at some point. Adding a Pin and using Device Registration is up to you, but I would recommend those steps as well.
