Game of War: Fire Age – Building Setup (Part 1) – Outside Your City, Probably the most common question I get asked in Game of War: Fire Age is something like, “How many of each building do you have?” It’s not a very easy question to answer and is going to depend a lot on your play style. So I decided to do a two-part post about the topic. This first post will discuss how many of each building I have on the outside of my city (Farms, Mines, Quarries, Logging Camps, and Gold Mines).
There is a total of twenty-five tiles outside of your city that you can place either a Farm, Mine, Quarry, Logging Camp, or Gold Mine on. My current setup is thirteen Farms, four Mines, four Quarries, four Logging Camps, and no Gold Mines. I’ve tried other setups, but this is the setup I’ve been running for several months. I use it on all my new accounts, so I know it works at the earlier levels and later levels in the game.
If you want to grow quickly in this game, you need to be able to gather resources, protect those resources, and recover from a devastating attack quickly. To do this, you need a few things: a big army, food for that army, Hospitals, a Storehouse, and enough Mines, Quarries, and Logging Camps to recover from an attack. I assume that most players can’t afford to buy 20,000+ Gold pieces each week. If you can, the advice in this article will probably not apply to you.
I have thirteen Farms because you need to be able to feed your massive army that you need to build to collect and protect your resources. If you spec your hero for food production, craft items that increase food production, and have thirteen moderately leveled up Farms, you should never have to stop producing troops. This will allow you to feed a massive army and never have to collect food from resource tiles. You can focus all of your collection on resource tiles towards stone, ore, wood, and silver because you should rarely have to worry about food. I only collect food when I can’t find any other resource.
Early on in the game, it will be easy to keep all of those Farms at the same level as your Stronghold. But once you hit around Stronghold Level 10, it will be difficult to keep all thirteen Farms (or your Mines, Quarries, and Logging Camps) at the same level as your Stronghold. It just takes too long to make sure all of those buildings are at maximum level. At some point, those building levels will start falling behind. This is one of the reasons why you need so many Farms.
The reason why I have four Mines, Quarries, and Logging Camps is for recovery. When someone demolishes your city (and it will happen), all of your troops will be killed that are not in a Hospital. If you have 50,000 troops in Hospitals, you need resources to get them out of there. Since all of your troops are either dead or in a Hospital, you will have no one to collect resources until you heal some of your troops or train new ones. This is where your Mines, Quarries, Logging Camps, Storehouse, and item inventory come in.
You’ll immediately start healing whatever troops you can heal with the resources your Storehouse saved. If you have any additional resources in your item inventory, you’ll spend that to heal more troops. Then you’ll use those troops to go gather more resources for you to heal the remaining troops. During that time, your Mines, Quarries, and Logging Camps will be producing additional resources to slowly continue to help you heal or create troops. This entire recovery process typically takes me about a day to recover all of my troops that were saved by the Hospitals (pray you had enough Hospitals for all of your troops).
I do not use Gold Mines. For me, the amount of time and effort I need to put into setting it up on Facebook, adding friends, and collecting the gold, isn’t worth it to me for what I get. I am patient and spend my gold wisely, so I never feel like I need it that bad. I’ve purchased gold a few times because I believe in monetarily supporting a game I’m playing so the developers can continue to improve it, but overall I’ve spent very little real money on the game. These are some of the reasons I don’t use the Gold Mine, but you might choose too if it makes sense for you.
When it comes to figuring out how to balance your Farms, Mines, Quarries, Logging Camps, and Gold Mines, just remember two things. One, you need a lot of Farms and at least one Mine, one Quarry, and one Logging Camp. That is the only real definite answer I can give you. Two, if approximately half of your twenty-five tiles are Farms and the rest are Mines, Quarries, Logging Camps, and Gold Mines, you’re probably going to do fine.
